Root Bound

Root Bound: (Emma & the Elementals) (Volume 1) - Tanya Karen Gough I have to admit I found Root Bound to be a little difficult to get into. I thought it was going to be a quick read however, I found that I kept wanting to put it down and go do something else. Had I not been a part of the tour I might have continued bothering with it at all. It wasn't until about halfway though chapter four that I thought okay, now it's getting good and I'm glad I stuck with it.One of the things I did like early on in the book was Emma's introduction to the brownies. Actually I'm pretty sure I just like the brownies in general. Another thing, for me, I find that even if I'm having trouble with the story, as long as I like the characters I can continue on. Though I had begun to like the story as I read on, I found the characters likable fairly early on.Though I grew up in the same city (especially a rather small city) seeing the same people, going to school with the same group of people all the way up to junior high and always felt at home and knowing my place. I can assume that Emma's feelings about moving all the time wanting a home are relatable ones. As I read the book, I felt for her. I remember reading the part after her first day at her new school and thinking I couldn't imagine having the sort of day. I wouldn't know how I would have handled it.I ended up deciding to give the book 3/5. I often change my mind after giving some more time to think about a book. I just feel like I kept putting my kindle down too often at the beginning and even once I had gotten into it, it was just something I didn't feel like I HAD to finish.I received this book as part of the Xpresso Book Tours.

Witch's Nocturne (Moonsongs, Book 2)

Witch's Nocturne (Moonsongs, Book 2) - E.J. Wesley Honestly, even though I was really excited to read Witch's Nocturne (and I'm hoping for more), I was slightly disappointed with this one. I don't know if my expectations were just too high after Blood Fugue. Don't get me wrong, I liked Witch's Nocturne.Again it was a quick read, I read this one much faster than I read the first book in the series (probably because I was alone in the house). We are introduced to a few new characters in this book, they aren't exactly what they might appear to be at first. The action and humor are all there from the first book. Jenny is still learning to be a "real adult" though she might not exactly be trying. It's kind of like what I like to ask people "bills what bills?" One part of the book that stands out to me the most and that I think was one of my favorites was Jenny's second (or would you call in third) visit to the library in her life. The end of Witch's Nocturne does leave possibilities for the future. Even from the first book not all the question were answered and now there are more and now there are witches to be worried about.I received this book as part of a blog tour.

Blood Fugue (Moonsongs, Book 1)

Blood Fugue (Moonsongs, Book 1) - E.J. Wesley Can I just say wow? I looked over some reviews and I was a little worried that maybe I was going to expect too much of this. No not at all.The first paragraph had me hooked. I loved the humor that's sort of thrown into the book. The book starts off with Jenny talking about how she looks at the past compared to how others looked at it. Two of my favorite lines in the whole book are in that one paragraph. I might have talked about this in another review, but, the first person point of view is sometimes iffy for me. Thankfully, Jenny is an awesome character, she isn't chatty and that definitely helps with getting past the first person point of view bit. The characters on a whole were rather likable.Unfortunately, though it is a very quick read, I had a ton of distractions, so it took me longer to get through than I had expected. Of course, that more of a complaint toward my family than toward the book itself. Once I was done with it however, I was really happy that I had the second one waiting for me to get to. If I do have one complaint, it would have to be that I felt like things just happened. That maybe there wasn't really a flow to one thing happening to the other. Of course, as I said before, I was distracted while I was reading it, so if that had to do with the fact that I was caught up with whatever was going on at home or the book itself I'm not entirely sure.I received this book as part of a blog tour.

How Miss Rutherford Got Her Groove Back

How Miss Rutherford Got Her Groove Back - Sophie Barnes Emily Rutherford has been in love with Adrian since they were children. And, believed that they had an understanding that they would be married. Little did she know that he would turn around and propose to her childhood best friend Kate. But maybe things aren't as bad as Emily thinks they are. At least not if Francis Riley, her former friend has anything to say about it.I was a little disappointed with this book. Don't get me wrong, this book was just so cute. However, I kind of felt the relationship between Emily and Francis was rather rushed. I expected them to attend more parties and what not, maybe to see the beginning of a possible courtship between Emily and someone else. It just seemed very straightforward. We knew where it was going, I just didn't expect to be so fast. It was a quick read, I finished it in about a day. I guess I really don't have much to say about it.

Guardians of the Grimoire (Volume 1)

Guardians of the Grimoire (Volume 1) - Natasha Slight I really don't usually not finish books, however, I don't ever see me bothering to pick up this book again. I was really excited when I was asked to read this book. I love fantasy books, I love YA, I thought perfect. The problem? I can't get into this book. I felt like the first few chapters were just a giant prologue. And, then just when I start to get comfortable BAM different character POV, every single time. I don't know if that changes at some point or what. Maybe if I gave it more time, but my patience has seriously run out with this one. I really don't mind there being different POV, I even enjoy them every now and then, but sometimes a story can be told from just a character or two's point of view. We don't really have to know everyone's (and their mothers', I know I'm blowing it out of proportion now, but you have my point right?) point of view of the story, it isn't necessary, and would just drive me crazy. This was given to me by the author for an honest review.

The Lure of Shapinsay

The Lure of Shapinsay - Krista Holle Well it's been a long time since I've read this book. I actually wrote the review but I didn't save it, it was on notepad and then my computer turned off on me. :( Anyway. I really liked this book. This was my first selkie read, which I think is why the book still stand out so much to me after so long. I didn't know what to expect, I didn't even know what selkie's were I had to look them up. I loved mermaid's growing up, they were my favorite sea mythical creatures growing up, but after I had finished readings this, I'm not so sure any more. This book took me about two days to finish. I had started it than I put it down and picked it up again. Once I got into it, that was it, I didn't put it down. The story moved at a good pace and I just wanted to know what came next. I loved Kait, who was strong. I feel like in YA, when a strong girl falls in love sometimes she isn't as strong, I didn't feel that way with Kait. And, if I remember correctly, she had felt that she wasn't as strong, afterward, but I don't think that was the case. I also really liked Tipper, and her story was a sad one. I can't remember what I thought her story was going to be, but what it was caught me a little off guard. I wasn't especially fond of Eamon, but I was able to move past that without much of a problem.I was given this book by the author for an honest review.

Chastity (Eternal Beloved, #2)

Chastity (Eternal Beloved, #2) - R. Rodriguez I liked Chastity more than the book before it Grace. Though I wasn't a fan of the character, Chastity at first (much like I didn't care for Grace), I grew to like her. When she finally decided to do what was best for her, I couldn't help, but cheer her on. What Chastity went through seemed relatable to me. I have known so many people who didn't get the love they deserved from their parents, and just have been treated badly for things they had no control over. I have seen what people who are treated like that will do. Seeing Chastity grow beyond that was amazing.I did have a two small problems. One, Chastity's love interest, Jared. Many of the characters aren't likable, granted they weren't supposed to be, but I suppose that was okay. Jared was a good guy, and Chastity deserved someone like that. I don't know why, but I didn't like him. (Maybe I just had high expectations after Lucien in Grace.) The second problem, which was probably my fault (again my expectations might have been a bit high). I was a tad bit disappointed with the ending, however, I still enjoyed the book, and it didn't kill anything for me. Of course by the end I was just so proud of Chastity and what she had done that the ending probably could have been worse and it still wouldn't have mattered to me. Once I was sucked up into it and couldn't put it down, there was no question about the rating I would give it. I would give it a 4 out of 5. And as with Grace, I would highly recommend this book to people who are into both contemporary and/or paranormal romance. The book can also be read without reading Grace, as they aren't exactly connected.I was given this book by the author for an honest review.

Grace: An Eternal Beloved Novel

Grace: An Eternal Beloved Novel - R. Rodriguez Okay, let's be honest here. I wasn't really sure what I was expecting going into it, I have mixed feelings about this book (I was expected more paranormal than it had). On one hand I couldn't put it down, I wanted to know what was going to happen. On the second hand, I hated Grace. It was like watching a soup opera or a novela, it had so much drama going on that I didn't care if I didn't like the main character, everything else kept me on the edge of my seat. Some of the other characters of course I adored, Grace's college roommate/best friend, for example I just loved. And, Lucian, oh my lord, Lucian. I don't have many book crushes, but yeah he's one of them now.It was probably the ending that saved Grace for me. It wasn't exactly what I was expecting (I kept hoping that this was some sort of bad dream for Grace, that it wasn't real), however, what it was completely satisfying. For a while I wasn't sure why one would considering a paranormal romance. I kept thinking it's about a stupid girl who keeps making the wrong decisions in life. Of course the ending cleared all of it up for me. (Sort of, I'm still not a big fan of Grace.) Did I mention how amazing the ending is? Now I don't mean just the last page or two. I mean the last chapter is flipping great. After finishing the book, I thought of giving it a 3 out of 5 stars. However, now that I gave myself a few days to take it all it, I think it's worth a 4. I would probably recommend this book more to people who are into contemporary as appose to paranormal romance. But honestly anyone who's into a ton of drama, and not always reading about happy relationships, but still like a somewhat happy ending, this is the book for you.I was given this book by the author for an honest review

I Loved You First

I Loved You First - Reena Jacobs Alex believes herself to be invisible, living in the shadow of her best friend Seth. Seth is athletic and sociable, and is in the closet that however, doesn't stop Alex from being in love with him. Still, she doesn't feel that she needs anyone else in her life. Of course, that all changes with Seth's secret is let out of the bag. Alex finds that she isn't as invisible as she thinks she is, and that maybe he isn't the only person she needs. I didn't think I was going to read this so quickly. Once I started it, I tried to put my kindle down as rarely as possible. I liked the pace, usually I feel like some YA contemporary kind of drags and I didn't get that with I Loved You First. It kept me interested the whole time.I also have to say that I really liked Alex for the most part. I'm a wall flower by choice myself. However, one thing I couldn't figure out, was why she loved Seth. Honestly, right from the beginning he seemed like a jerk to me. He seemed to take advantage of her every chance he got (ex: dragging her to parties and dates), just because she loved him and was her best friend.I would give this book a 3.5/5. For a quick read it was enjoyable, I was, however, slightly disappointed with it. I feel like the characters might have been missing something. I also don't think that Seth really went through much, though he gave up so easily.I was asked by the author to review this.

Freeze Tag (Point)

Freeze Tag - Caroline B. Cooney Well what can I say about this book? I found Meghan to be annoying. I remember Caroline B. Cooney as one of my favorite authors growing up. I had loved her characters. Meghan on the other hand? No. She was in a relationship and basically that was all she was. Was there really nothing more to her? And the ending? Oh come on. Am I to believe that Lannie changed because she was stuck in a car for a few hours? Really? Yeah, I don't think so.
